AAP takes lead, names 29 Patiala candidates

Patiala : The Aam Aadmi Party has taken the lead in the municipal poll process by coming up with the first list of 29 candidates today. Of these, 11 are women candidates. While three of the candidates are under-matric, 10 are undergraduates. While the Congress had released its manifesto for these elections in June, AAP has announced to release separate manifestos for each ward in the Chief Minister’s hometown, claiming that this will be their way of highlighting the problems of each ward in detail.
Party leaders said people should know about the plight of the CM’s city, which would throw light on the way the government was functioning.
There are 2, 87,550 voters for these elections and there will be 230 polling booths across 60 wards of Patiala. Out of these, while eight have been reserved for the Scheduled Castes, two wards have been reserved for Backward Classes. The reservation for women has been increased from 33 to 50 per cent. Moreover, this will be the first time when voters will have NOTA option on EVMs. Senior party leader D Balbir Singh said, “We will be fighting these elections with a pledge to rid Patiala of the Congress and the SAD-BJP. We want to give a direct fight to the ruling party and we will be contesting these elections based on genuine issues.”
