Akali Sarpanch shot dead over sewer line layout in Patiala

PATIALA : An Akali sarpanch in Patiala district was shot dead after a dispute over layout plan of sewer pipeline being laid in his village. Police said that sarpanch of Paliaan village Palwinder Singh, who was also member of market committee of Bhadson town, was shot by Mewa Singh while supervising development works in his village around 8am on Thursday.Mewa Singh had objected to the layout plan of sewerage pipes being laid down in the settlement. “The incident occurred when labourers were laying sewage and water works pipe in the village. Mewa Singh objected that digging was being executed in the proximity of one of his properties. Labourers then called Palwinder Singh, who had an altercation with Mewa Singh over this issue. Enraged Mewa Singh then shot Palwinder in the chest,” said Patiala SP Jaskiranjit Singh Teja.
Police said Palwinder was immediately rushed to Patiala’s Rajindera hopistal where doctors declared him brought dead. The SP added that Mewa Singh had been booked under section 302 and was absconding.
