Badal government has destroyed Punjab economy: Bajwa

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Congress President Mr Partap Singh Bajwa today squarely held responsible the Chief Minister Mr Parkash Singh Badal and the Deputy Chief Minister Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal for destroying the economy of the state as reflected in the report released by the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India relating to both industrial as well as the farm sector. The tragedy was that both father and son had been claiming spectacular development since 2007 but the report belied the claims. In a statement, the PPCC chief referred to the 93 per cent fall in fresh investment in the state during the last eight years despite the high profile industrial summits organised by Mr Sukhbir Badal. He said the closure of more than 18,000 industrial units during the Akali Dal-BJP rule was a different story.
He said Assocham had pointed out that fresh investment in the state had fallen from Rs 36,650 crore in 2007-8 to a meagre Rs 2600 crore in 2014-15, a decrease of alarming 93 per cent. He said it was the fall within one year from Rs 7200 crore in 2013-14 to Rs 2600 crore in 2014-15 that had deflated Mr Sukhbir Badal’s balloon. He alleged one of the basic reasons was that industrialists were not inclined to invest in the state for certain extraneous reasons. In this context, he referred to the anonymous complaint the notice of which had been taken by the High Court about corrupt practices indulged in by the Badal family with specific reference to a popular bread manufactured in Ludhiana.
Quoting Assocham report, he pointed out the growth rate was 10.2 per cent in 2006-07, 4.6 per cent in 2012-13 and 5.3 per cent in 2014-15.
