Bajwa blames Sukhbir Badal for corruption and stink in Punjab Police

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Congress President Partap Singh Bajwa today came down heavily on the Akali Dal-BJP government in the state saying the departments allocated to Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal were stinking with corruption as evident from the suspension of three Station House Officers from Ludhiana district on a single day. Sukhbir holds the charge of Home department. He said the issue was not that immediate action had been taken but that of all pervading corruption in the face of transparency in administration being repeatedly claimed by the Deputy Chief Minister. He asserted it was Sukhbir Badal himself who was responsible for the rot especially in police department as the SHOs were supposed to pay monthly to the Halqa Incharge, the system introduced by him to control administration at every level.
“The situation seems to have touched rock bottom as evident from the complicity of one of the SHOs with even a thief who was sharing the booty. This rot in the police department has been brought on the record even by Akali Dal’s alliance partner, the Bharatiya Janata Party in its official organ in which it has been specifically mentioned that maximum complaints are received against the police department,” added. The PPCC chief said even the suvidha centres launched with much fanfare to provide services to the people had turned into dens of corruption and this too was known to those in power. These centers were set up as part of the governance reforms but there was little change in the situation at the ground level.Mr Bajwa alleged the state police was functioning as a wing of the Akali Dal and the system had been thoroughly wrecked by the Deputy Chief Minister who himself was known to be appointing SHOs.He said people were fed up with this government and would give a befitting reply to the Akali Dal-BJP alliance in the next Assembly election. He alleged the Badal family was interested only in promoting its business by using the state power and the sufferer were the common people.
