Banga youth shot in US, another in Manila

Phagwara/Mansa : Dharampreet Singh, 21, hailing from Khotran village in Banga, was shot dead by robbers who struck at a gas station near San Francisco, US, on Tuesday. He was studying law. A day earlier, on November 13, young Buta Singh of Mal Singh Wala village in Budhlada, Mansa, was waylaid and murdered on the outskirts of the Philippines capital, Manila. Dharampreet reportedly hid himself behind the cash counter but was shot by one of the four robbers as they moved out after looting the gas station. His family, comprising his grandfather Santokh Singh, father Inderjit Singh, who is a truck driver, mother and twin sister Amandeep, seemed numb with grief as mourners poured into their house here.
Grieving for 27-year-old Buta Singh, it was much the same at Mansa’s Mal Singh Wala village. Buta Singh’s family plans to approach the Centre to help bring back his wife and their three-month-old son. Bachitar Singh, the deceased’s father, said: “I have three daughters. Buta Singh was my only son. I sold the family land and sent him to Manila seven years ago for a better future. He not only fended for himself but also sent money back home.”
