Bikers escape death as elephant attacks them in West Bengal

Jalpaiguri, Sep 14 : Two men on motorbike narrowly escaped death when an elephant in Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal attacked them as they tried to ride past it. The incident happened when the elephant came out on the National Highway 31 from the nearby forest. People waited on the highway for the jumbo to go back into the forest, but two men on a motorbike tried to ride past the animal. The elephant attacked the bikers when it saw them come towards it. Both the bikers escaped although the elephant trampled the bike. An eye witness, Swarup Roy said that people tried to calm down the animal while asking it to stop. Surprisingly, the elephant did stop. The bikers suffered minor injuries. Forest authorities rushed to the spot and scared away the elephant back to the jungle
