Britain or Bihar, cheating in exams is a universal problem!

London : There was a lot of outrage, both national and international, when pictures of Vidya Niketan School in Manhar, Bihar went viral that showed people climbing buildings to examinees cheat in Class X CBSE exams. The truth is that while the cheating in exams might not be as brazen, it’s a problem that exists everywhere, including the developed world and in countries like England.
A report in The Guardian, that that there was ‘an epidemic of trickery and cheating, ranging from primary school teachers rigging key assessments through to 40,000 university undergraduates disciplined for plagiarism over the past four years.’ A Channel 4 investigation found that in the past four years, over 58,000 undergraduates have been investigated for plagiarism, of which 40,000 were disciplined. The investigation also revealed companies offered 4000-word dissertations for £480 (Rs 47779.06). Educational institutions were also part of the schemes which allowed some pupils sitting exams, so that their results wouldn’t lower the school’s performance tables. Teachers were also under pressure to artificially improve children’s results, sometimes on direct orders from the school leadership.
One teacher said: ‘There was one girl, her coursework had no punctuation in it at all. In the end, I just had to go through it myself and put in the full stops and commas and the capital letters because she just couldn’t get it … We made sure that every student had coursework that was C and above.’ There were also instances of old school cheating like copying coursework directly from textbooks.
