Capt Amarinder suspects state’s sincerety in CBI probe into sacrilege incidents

CHANDIGARH: Congress Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha Capt Amarinder Singh today questioned the limited scope of the CBI inquiry ordered by the Punjab government into the incidents of sacrilege and subsequent police firing in Bargari near Kotkapura on October 14.Reacting to the government decision, Capt Amarinder suspected that the state government was not sincere about finding out the complete truth. “Given the limited scope of the inquiry, it appears that the government was more keen to bide time than find out the truth”, he remarked. The former Chief Minister said, important issue of the police firing on peaceful protestors that led to death of two persons has deliberately been kept out of the inquiry purview. “The issue of unprovoked firing on peaceful protestors is also equally important, besides the sacrilege and the two cannot be viewed separately”, he observed.“The inquiry will never be complete unless and until the issue of police firing is not included in the terms of reference”, he said, adding, otherwise everyone will believe, and rightly so, that the government was not only trying to bide time, but was also trying to protect the guilty police officials responsible for loss of two precious lives.
