Dal Khalsa castigated Punjab govt for failing to prosecute cops in Behbal Kalan firing

FARIDKOT : Dal Khalsa today castigated the Punjab government for failing to prosecute the killer cops, who ordered unprovoked firing on Sikh demonstrators protesting against the incident of sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib on Oct 14 last year at Behbal Kalan.
Dal Khalsa president Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema while speaking at village Behbal Kurd to mark the first death anniversary of both the deceased Gurjeet Singh and Krishan Bhagwan Singh, blamed Chief Minister and Home Minister Parkash Singh Badal and Sukhbir Singh Badal for shielding the guilty cops for vested interest. He said the state home minister buckling under police pressure has ignored the pleas of human rights defenders and justice-seekers and instead attempted to muzzle the voices of reasoning with state’s might. He gave a clarion call to the people of Punjab to unseat Badals as they have failed the Sikhs on all fronts. Adv Cheema who was instrumental in constituting the one-man commission led by Justice (retd) Markandey Katju to dig out the truth behind the police firing at Behbal Kalan that resulted in killing of both and injuring many of them. He said one year has passed and justice still eludes the aggrieved families. Taking a dig at the state government, he said the Akali’s constituted the Justice (retd) Zora Singh commission to cover-up its own mistakes. He said both the commissions held the police officials who were leading the force including the then SSP Moga responsible for the deaths of both. He said it’s ironic that the state government has shown indifferent attitude towards the findings. The prominent personalities who spoke on the occasion include Simranjeet Singh Mann, Dhian Singh Mand, Baba Baljit Singh Daduwal, Satnam Singh Khanda, Captain Harchran Singh Rode.
