Davinder Pal Singh Bhullar admitted in Drug De-addiction center at Amritsar

AMRITSAR: Prof Davinder Pal Singh Bhullar, a convict in 1993 Delhi bomb blast case has been shifted to local Swami Vivekananda Drug De-addiction Centre here today from the Amritsar Central Jail.Swami Vivekananda Drug De-addiction Centre is being run under the direct supervision of local Government Medical College as well as Government Guru Nanak Dev Hospital. Earlier today in the afternoon, Bhullar was brought here to Amritsar Central Jail from Delhi’s Tihar Jail as he was brought from Delhi by road amidst extra ordinary tight security along with doctors from Delhi.The Deputy Commissioner of Police Amritsar Parmpal today confirmed the admission of Bhullar from jail to Swami Vivekananda Drug De-addiction Centre. He was admitted here due to ill health and security point of view as there was need of venue where Bhullar could be admitted in the Government hospital along with the huge team of security. Bhullar is said to be quite unwell both physically and mentally. He is reportedly suffering from schizophrenia (lack of connection between thought and action).
Meanwhile, Spokesperson of Radical Sikh outfit Kanwar Pal Singh Bittu today met Bhullar inside the Amritsar Central Jail immediate after his arrival in the prison. Bittu said Bhullar was looking physically and mentally good but week little bit as responding his all the queries sensibly. It was Jail Superintendent Mr. R.K.Sharma who has facilitated the meeting of Bhullar with activist of Sikh Radical outfit in his office.
Bhullar’s wife Navneet Kaur had sought the shifting of Bhullar to Amritsar Jail citing his poor health. Navneet Kaur who had migrated to Canada with her in-laws in 1994, has her parental house at Ranjiv Avenue in Amritsar.
It may be mentioned here that, Davinder Singh Bhullar’s case of the Khalistan Liberation Force convicted for killing nine people and injuring 31 in a bomb blast in 1993. Among those who survived the attack are former Youth Cong chief M S Bitta. His mercy petition was filed before the president of India in 24.1.2003 and the same was rejected on 25.5.2011. Later Double Bench of Supreme Court of India has commuted his death sentence to life imprisonment.
It is also noteworthy here that Amritsar is the hometown of former Youth Congress chief M S Bitta who born and brought up in the Amritsar city and his real brother still lives here and Bitta comes here off and on.Bitta was given Z Plus Security cover after attack in Delhi outside the office of Youth Congress in Delhi in 1993.
