Decision against direct army involvement in Dinanagar operation taken at highest level

Chandigarh, July 28 : “The buck stops at us”, asserted Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal from Poland when he was informed about the shocking terrorist attack at Dinanagar in yesterday morning. The operation started rolling out immediately. It was decided that at the operational level, the buck would stop with state police and army would be kept at periphery. The adroitness with which the Punjab police handled the tough operation to confront the suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist attack in Dinanagar has given out a political message that is loud and clear and that is about assured safety and security of the ordinary citizens. One of the perhaps most significant dimension of this operation was that the collateral damage was zero.Going by the more than a decade long period of turbulence witnessed by this border state which is vulnerable to proxy war from across the border, Punjab has made it clear that no mischief would be tolerated. The operation was carried out entirely by the state police and according to the highly placed sources, the decision to this effect was taken at the highest level by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, Sukhbir and Director General of Police Sumedh Singh Saini. It was for this reason that Saini himself took over the command on the spot. Handing over the operation to the army to neutralise just three terrorists would have given a totally wrong message that the state police was just inept and incapable, despite the fact this this is the only force that has the credentials of wiping out terrorism.
It has been confirmed that that the terrorists were Pakistan based and they had started from Sargodha and crossed the border from near Dorangla village on the Indian side and managed to reach Pathankot-Amritsar railway line near Dinananagar. Their destination was Gurdaspur going by the coordinates fed to the GPS.
