Exclusive official statement by Uber General Manager on Uber Delhi Molestation Case

Delhi : Uber cab service was again back-lashed when in yet another incident an Uber cab driver allegedly molested a female passenger in Gurgaon. The accused driver Vinod had forcefully tried to kiss the lady while she hailed the cab from Gurgaon. Although the driver was immediately suspended from service, and a police case was registered against him, he has not been arrested. The victim said that when she reached the destination to which she was headed to, the driver handed over her bags and shook hands with her saying ‘nice to meet you ma’am…’. But before she knew it he kissed her hand and held her tight to kiss her forcibly. Post the incident the victim’s brother took to social media to thrash the cab service provider Uber verbally. He said that even after registering a complaint against them, there was no action taken. Uber replied in a template-like format and apologised for such an experience. But denying the accusation of not taking action against the case, the Uber spokesperson has given a statement.
In an official statement, Uber spokesperson Gagan Bhatia who is the General Manager, Uber Delhi has said, “Our team immediately reached out to the rider via phone within a few minutes of receiving the feedback. Multiple members of the Uber team have spoken with the driver. Uber has a zero-tolerance policy towards inappropriate behaviour and immediate action has already been taken with the driver partner being deactivated while the matter is being thoroughly investigated. In order to protect the privacy of parties involved, we will continue to handle this matter directly with the concerned parties. As discussed with the rider on the phone and email, our team is ready to assist further in any way we can to share information with authorities. We can also confirm that the driver partner does have a valid PSV badge and commercial license issued by the Delhi authorities.”
