Ghuggi quits AAP, attacks Bhagwant

Chandigarh : In fresh trouble for the beleaguered Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), its former state convener Gurpreet Singh Ghuggi today quit the party — the second leader to do so within days of appointment of Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann as Punjab convener. Bholath MLA Sukhpal Khaira has already resigned as party Chief Whip.Meanwhile, AAP has expelled its Amritsar Lok Sabha byelection candidate Upkar Singh Sandhu. The latter had called Bhagwant Mann an alcoholic. Ghuggi too said Mann suffered from alcoholism and that party convener Arvind Kejriwal had given him three months to get himself cured.Leaders of various parties and personalities from the entertainment industry, including Ghuggi, had made a beeline for AAP before the Assembly poll, claiming they were not after any post or position. Ghuggi said he had resigned from AAP, but not politics. “I will be here to serve Punjab, Punjabi and Punjabiat. I may return to AAP, if it is run by people who genuinely wish to usher in change,” he said.On former convener Sucha Singh Chhotepur, Ghuggi claimed he was not shown the video-tape on Chhotepur “accepting a bribe”. Blaming the Delhi leadership for the party’s poll debacle in Punjab, he said there was no democracy within the party.
