Government introduces Bill to replace Medical Council of India

New Delhi, December 29 :The government on Friday introduced in the Lok Sabha a Bill to replace the apex medical education regulator — Medical Council of India (MCI) — with a new body to ensure “transparency”, even as Opposition members demanded that the proposed legislation be referred to a department-related standing committee on health.
However, amid protest by Congress members, Health Minister JP Nadda introduced the National Medical Commission Bill, 2017, as Speaker Sumitra Mahajan chided them, saying they should follow parliamentary procedures and give prior notice to air their disagreement with the Bill’s introduction.Introducing the measure, Nadda said it incorporates suggestions made by a standing committee.
