India vs Bangladesh Test Match : Hope you didn’t compromise on your Sunday siesta

Dhaka : Harbhajan Singh, on his return to international cricket, bagged three wickets to surpass Wasim Akram in the list of highest Test wicket-takers. Tamim Iqbal went past Habibul Bashar to become the highest run-getter for Bangladesh in Tests. Ravichandran Ashwin bagged his 10th five-wicket haul in Test cricket. Shakib Al Hasan bagged 100 wickets and 2000 runs in Bangladesh. Shikhar Dhawan and Murali Vijay registered the third instance for India and 16th overall where both openers went past the 150 run-mark. Apart from these personal milestones, the happenings of the match were inconsequential.
Murali Vijay operated from one end and Shikhar Dhawan came on from the other – with the red cherry in their hand. It was obvious that Virat Kohli had given up, with 17 overs of play left. He tried his best to enforce a result as India had bundled out Bangladesh 206 runs short of their total and enforced the follow on. Bangladesh promised so much more coming into the match at the back of a good run in the world cup and a successful tour of Pakistan. But rains, just wouldn’t allow that. They managed to bag six wickets and throw away 10 of theirs to give an improbable hope of victory to their counterparts.Eventually, the match ended in a draw with just 184 overs bowled – ie just over two days of cricket. The fact that the pitch was flat and easy paced didn’t help matters either. It was another encounter where nature showed its might and sadly, won over cricket. The settings were in contrast to what you would’ve seen in Lagaan. At Fatullah, they were praying for the sun to shine brightly.
