Jaspal Singh Manjhpur Meets Prof. Bhullar, Reveals How Political Prisoners Can Be Released

AMRITSAR SAHIB : Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur has stated that detaining any prisoner for more than 20 years is a violation of Section 57 of Indian Penal Code. He said that the courts always sentence a person for 10 or 14 years and the Government doesn’t hold any right to detain a person beyond a declared sentence.
“It is strange that Prof. Bhullar had served imprisonment for more than 20 years,” stated Manjhpur. He suggested the government to release all those who have spent more than 14 years in jail. As per information shared by Manjhpur, in case the delay by the Supreme Court becomes an obstacle, the government should grant permanent parole to him.
maxresdefaultAdvocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur expressed these views after meeting Prof. Davinderpal Singh Bhullar in the psychiatry ward of Guru Nanak Hospital in Amritsar. In a question about parole for Prof. Davinderpal Singh Bhullar, S. Manjhpur maintained that the administration would have to follow the jail manual for parole and it doesn’t have any concern with the court. It is notable that Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur is maintaining a list of political Sikh prisoners from 2004. He has deep understanding regarding legal obstacles in the way of permanent release of political Sikh prisoners.
