JUNE 21-WORLD YOGA DAY TO BE OBSERVED IN A BIG WAY- JAYANI

Chandigarh, June 17: Health Minister Punjab Mr. Surjit Kumar Jayani has directed all the Ayurveda and Unani Officers at district level to coordinate with the deputy commissioners of their respective districts to make sure that the World Yoga Day is celebrated in Punjab in a big way on the guidelines of the government of india. He has also asked the health officers to upload the necessary information, pictures video clips of the World Yoga Day on the National Health Portal.
In a statement issued here today Mr. Jayani said that it was a matter of pride for india that on the initiative of the Prime Minister Mr. Narender Modi a resolution, to observe June 21 as World Yoga Day , supported by 170 countries was adopted by United Nations. The Minister further said that Yoga in india is considered to be around 5,000 year old mental, physical and spiritual practice. He observed that with the changed life style it was difficult for us to fight back a number of physical and mental diseases where as Yoga/exercises provided us a perfect platform to keep ourselves physically, mentally, spiritually and socially fit.
Mr. Jayani further said that he would take up the matter with the Chief Minister Punjab to introduce practicing Yoga by good instructors in Jails and also in the drug de-addiction and rehabilitation centres with a sole motive to encourage the addicts and inmates towards a better and healthy life.
Recalling old days when people used to do a lot of hard labour, Mr. Jayani said that because of the “air conditioned culture” our youth was constantly losing the basic unity of mind and body; thought and action and this coordination of vital organs could be obtained back through the yogic exercises, he added. Adding further he said that it was imperative to restore the lost glory of our ancient yogic exercises to maintain a regular, disciplined and healthy life style.
The Minister also said that the Ayurvedic Department in Punjab would also be revamped with more focus on practicing yoga at the district levels especially in the educational institutions to promote mental, spiritual, social and physical well being of the people.
