Land on lease scheme draws huge response

CHANDIGARH : Punjab Government’s land on lease scheme for solar power projects has attracted huge response from the private landowners having an offer of 4,580 acres of land in just 10 days from across the State. Seeing the enthusiastic response, the State Government is expecting to create a considerable land bank for setting up of solar projects thereby giving a big momentum to boost its solar energy initiatives.
Punjab Government had recently launched a unique scheme seeking applications from the land owners to lease out their land for setting up of solar power plants on built, operate and own (BOO) basis and minimum lease rate will be from Rs35,000 per acre to Rs50,000 depending on the condition and location of the land.
“Within just 10 days of launching of this scheme, large number of landowners has already offered 4,580 acres of their land for making their contribution in generation of clean and green energy. And another interesting feature of it is that applicants are from every nook and corner of State,” said the state New and Renewable Energy Minister Bikram Singh Majithia.
