Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard emotional after Anfield farewell

London : Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard on Saturday played his final match at Anfield on an ‘emotional’ note, as he ends his 17-year association with Liverpool at the end of the season. Gerrard received an rousing reception from the supporters in his 709th match for the club, which ended in a 3-1 loss at the hands of Crystal Palace. He said that he received an unbelievable send-off that got him very emotional, the BBC reported. The veteran midfielder added that he was very proud of the way he had played and would badly miss the club. However, the result did not match with the sense of expectation and excitement of the spectators and the Liverpool players, with Palace coming from 1-0 down to win 3-1. Gerrard will play his final match in Liverpool colours against Stoke City on May 24, before departing for Major League Soccer side LA Galaxy in June.
