Massive Chandigarh Rally Held For Release of Sikh Political Prisoners

CHANDIGARH, Punjab (May 4, 2015)—Hundreds of Sikhs arrived in Chandigarh to protest lack of action by the Punjab Government for the release of Sikh political prisoners. The protest was held at the back side of the Sukhna Lake. Panthik organizations also held a meeting earlier at Gurdwara Gursagar Sahib and discussed the strategy for seeking release of Singhs. Sikh gathering at the Gurdwara Sahib decided to call a Panthik gathering on May 10.
After the meeting at Gurdwara, a large police deployment tried to stop the protesters who were on their to the lake. However after a dialogue, the police finally let the protestors proceed as they promised to remain peaceful. A long line of over 300 persons was formed who held hands and raised slogans in favor of Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa. The May 10 meeting will be crucial as Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa’s struggle may be reaching it’s concluding days. While Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa’s health is getting worse, it is not only a concern for Sikh organizations, but if anything was to happen to Bapu Ji, it will cause a big impact on reputation of the current Punjab Government.
Sikh Sangat worldwide is planning to hold similar gathering on May 10 to raise awareness and build pressure on Punjab Government.
