Mohali woman duped of Rs 9 lakh by her British facebook friend

MOHALI : A friendship between a Mohali woman and a man claiming to be a British national that blossomed on Facebook withered away after the resident of Phase IV was duped of Rs 9 lakh, police said on Saturday.Loveneet Kaur and James Bayson, the British national, came into contact through the social networking site. They began to chat regularly and developed a strong bond over a couple of months. Soon, the two started to exchange phone calls. The woman, who belonged from a well-to-do business family and worked in a reputed hospital as a paramedical staffer, found James to be polite and kind. He promised to come to India to meet her.
In May, James assured her that he has booked a flight to India, clicking pictures of his ticket and documents and sending copies of them to Loveneet to gain her trust. On May 25, James landed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi. Within a few minutes, he made a call to Loveneet and told her to deposit about Rs 9 lakh into his account, saying he was not being able to exchange his UK pounds at the airport.
