Navjot Sidhu Breaks Silence After Quitting BJP

Patiala (Jatin Kamboj) : Breaking his silence a week after quitting Rajya Sabha, Cricketer turned Politician Navjot Sidhu troubled the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) with his opinions by saying that the BJP leadership wanted to keep him away from his native land, Punjab. He said that serving Punjab was beyond the party for him. Attacking BJP for its biased approach towards Punjab, Sidhu said on July 26 while speaking with the press that he delivered the esteemed seat of Amritsar to the party in adverse circumstances but the party leadership asked him to move out of Punjab and contest the election from Kurukshetra (Haryana) or Delhi. “I quit the Rajya Sabha because I was told that I cannot look at Punjab and will have to keep away from it. No dharma is bigger than Punjab for me,” he said, calling the state his nation from which he cannot keep away. Navjot Sidhu also alleged that the state leadership of BJP was working under pressure with its ally, the Shiromani Akali Dal, which doesn’t want to see him in Punjab. There have been evading queries pertaining to the speculations of joining the AAP fold. Sidhu clarified that he wants to serve Punjab and will stand by any party that will serve in the interests of Punjab. Sidhu was asked if he wanted to be the chief ministerial candidate in the next year’s assembly elections; he said that he has always wanted to serve Punjab and does not care about position or titles.
