NSS Cell of GADVASU conducts plantation drive

LUDHIANA: NSS Cell of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University commemorated World Environment Day-2015 with motto “My Earth My Duty” by conducting interactive talk on “One World, One Environment” and “Sustainable Consumption and Production”. Dr Syed Shabih Hassan, NSS Programme Coordinator, GADVASU, Ludhiana highlighted the importance of sapling plantation, zero polythene/plastic wastage campaign, sustainable development, environmental issues and role of United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). He told that there is need to plant more trees, green cover, discourage dumping solid, liquid wastes in rivers, wetland, watershed areas, Buddha Nallah, stop deforestation and zero plastic/polythene wastage. He also told that individual action has great impact bringing changes towards care and healthy environment. He said that increasing pollution in Ludhiana city is cause of concern so the NSS volunteers/students has adopted slogan “Each One Plant One”, 3R (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle), “One Student One Tree” and “Special Plantation Drive” as per UGC guidelines in the university campus and time to time participating in the awareness campaign for educating local people. NSS Volunteers took pledge for application in daily life and encourage others to do the same. NSS volunteers/students irrigated more than 2000 plants, trees and planted 250 saplings in the campus and adopted villages on the occasion. They also pledged to protect environment specially air, water, soil and promote greenery, peace and harmony in the society among people. Volunteers donated plants, dustbin and collected unwanted materials, plastics, polythene, non-biodegradable substances from the campus and kept in dustbin for the beautification of the campus. NSS volunteers/students made environment awareness campaign with slogan “Seven Billion Dreams, One Planet, Consume with Care” and conducted special plantation drive and cleanliness works in the campus in collaboration with Society for Conservation of Flora and Fauna to save the environment. Dr Hassan appealed to all NSS volunteers, faculty members, technical and non-technical employees of the university for observing World Environment Day every year, sapling donations, planting tree in nearby locality and working areas for environment preservation and conservation.
