Power demand in region take a sharp dip

CHANDIGARH : With widespread rain across the region the demand for power has taken a sharp dip and all the state run thermal units are operating in Haryana.
The power demand in state had earlier touched 1800 lakh units per day has come down drastically by 50 % and the power supplied was only 900 lakh units on Sunday. All the thermal units in the state were not operating due to less demand and only one unit of CLP Jhajjar was running at reduced load. The unit supplied only 51 lakh units and the rest came from supplies given under various power purchase agreements.
The maximum power demand in state was 4250 MW and this demand is likely to exceed 9300 MW in coming days after next week in July.
The coal stock in thermal plants is more than sufficient. Khedar thermal has coal stock of 54 days while Yamuna Nagar thermal and Panipat thermal have stock of 36 and 48 days respectively. In Punjab the power demand also declined from 2300 lakh units to 1360 lakh units . The three out of four units are operating at Ranjit sagar Dam project. The peak demand which was hovering at above 10,500 MW earlier was recorded at around 6100 MW on Sunday.
