Producer of ‘Chaar Sahibzade’ Refuses to Back Movie ‘Nanak Shah Fakir’

PATIALA, Punjab (May 2, 2015)—In a significant development, producer of the animated movie ‘Chaar Sahibzade’ Harry Baweja has refused to support the controversial movie ‘Nanak Shah Fakir’ stating that its producer Harinder Sikka should not have made a film which would hurt Sikh sentiments.Baweja was here to get honoured at the All India Punjabi Conference at Punjab University. He said that giving respect to sentiments of Sikhs is the primary duty of any film maker.“If any film maker wants to make film on Sikh religion, he should get the script passed from Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee in order to prevent any controversy or complication. Before making the animated movie ‘Chaar Sahibzade’, I showed every related aspect to the SGPC. Due to which, nobody raised objection against the film”, he said. However, he said that Indian Censor Board doesn’t need any religious scholars when it decides over the standard of the film or whether it is in interest of the country or not. He argued that if representation was given to all regions in the board, the list would turn very long. For instance, he said, the committee set up by the SGPC to censor films did not need any film expert as it reviews only the religious aspect.
