Prof. Davinder Pal Singh Bhullar released on parole for 21 days

AMRITSAR SAHIB : Political Sikh prisoner Prof. Davinder Pal Singh Bhullar was released on parole on July 29 for 21 days by the authorities of Central Jail of Amritsar. He has been granted parole after two and half month of surrendering before the Jail authorities. Earlier, he was released on 21 days parole on April 23 and he had surrendered before the Jail authorities on May 15.Prof. Bhullar reached the parental home of his wife Bibi Navneet Kaur situated in Ranjit Avenue of Amritsar during the evening hours of July 29.Prof. Davender Pal Singh Bhullar was framed under Terrorism and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act (TADA) in a case of killing nine bystanders in a 1993 car bombing intended to kill Maninderjeet Bitta (Youth Congress leader), and was sentenced to death. The Supreme Court of India had commuted his death sentence to life Imprisonment on 31 March 2014, both on the ground of an unexplained and inordinate delay of eight years in deciding his mercy petition and on the ground of suffering from Schizophrenia.Under pressure of Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa’s struggle, his transfer to Central Jail of Amritsar was okayed by the Punjab government last year and he was transferred to Punjab in May 2015. Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa and Bandi Singh Rehai Committee member Bhavanjit Singh Sidhu welcomed Prof. Bhullar’s release.
