Proxy wars in South Asia should end, says US envoy

Karachi, July 5 : Lauding the sacrifices made by the Pakistani army and the ‘disruptive effects’ of Operation Zarb-i-Azb on terrorists in North Waziristan, U.S. envoy to Islamabad Richard Olson has called for an end to proxy wars in South Asia.On being asked about the accusations levelled by Afghanistan’s government that Pakistani militants were involved in insurgency within its borders, Olson remarked that the era of proxy wars should come to an end in South Asia, regardless of who was behind such wars in the region, reported the Dawn. While noting that international terrorist organisations had been ‘enormously disrupted’ in the last 14 years, Olson said that they were closely watching developments to ascertain the possible emergence of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria ( ISIS) in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
