Rana Gurjeet condemns Manjit GK for questioning credentials of Punjabi political asylum seekers in US

CHANDIGARH: Senior Congress leader and Kapurthala MLA Rana Gurjeet today condemned Delhi Gurdwara Managing Committee president Manjit Singh GK for questioning the credentials of the Punjabi political asylum seekers in the United States and Canada.
Reacting to Manjit Singh’s letter to the U.S. authorities seeking investigation into the Punjabi political asylum seekers’ credentials there, Rana said, the Akali Dal leaders were reacting in panic and frustration. He said, on the one hand Deputy CM Sukhbir Badal was teeming them as anti-nationals and on the other hand Manjit Singh was accusing them of being terrorists and ISI agents. He said, both Sukhbir and Manjit are ignorant of the socio-economic ground realities in Punjab that force our young people to seek greener pastures outside and in the process they don’t mind adopting the political asylum route also. The Congress leader said, Manjit Singh was born and brought up in an affluent family who did not know and understand the problems of people who want to emigrate abroad. He pointed out, these people sell their land, spend the savings of their parents and seek loans to go and work abroad to make a living. “And when people like Manjit Singh pronounce them as terrorists and ISI agents , they have every reason to protest”, he said.
The Kapurthala MLA advised the Akali leaders not to get to desperate and frustrated to paint the members of their own community in anti-national and terrorists colours. He pointed out, these people have been making immense contribution towards the economy back home and they certainly deserve a better deal than to be suspected of their credentials as Manjit GK was trying to do.Moreover, Rana added, the Akalis must learn to face opposition and address it and not run away from the harsh realities which are of their own making.
