Ravi Shastri appointed Director of Cricket for India tour of Bangladesh 2015

Mumbai : Former India all-rounder Ravi Shastri has been appointed as the director of the Indian cricket team for the upcoming tour of Bangladesh. Shastri takes over the role following the end of Duncan Fletcher’s contract at the helm.Shastri was the Director of Cricket for the Indian team during the recently concluded ICC Cricket World Cup and helped India reach the semi-final of the tournament. The recent developments comes at the back of the appointment of batting legends Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguily and VVS Laxman in the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) advisory panel. The panel will also give their inputs as India looks to find a new coach.
The BCCI press release stated, “The BCCI wishes to inform that Mr. Ravi Shastri, former India Captain, has been appointed as Director of the Indian cricket team for the tour of Bangladesh, starting on 10 June 2015. Mr. Sanjay Bangar, Assistant Coach (Batting), Mr. B. Arun, Assistant Coach (Bowling) and Mr. R. Sridhar, Assistant Coach (Fielding), will assist Mr. Shastri during the tour.”“Mr. Biswarup Dey will be the Administrative Manager. Mr. Rishikesh Upadhayaya has been appointed as Logistics Manager for the tour,” it further stated.
Fletcher’s contract ended following India’s semi-final exit from the world cup. While there were a few successes during his four-year reign, the biggest disappointment was the fact that India managed to win just one Test abroad. He had taken over from Gary Kirsten, who had led India to a famous world cup win in 2011.
