SAD Amritsar holds protest at SGPC meeting venue, demands Makkar’s resignation

CHANDIGARH: The workers of Shiromani Akali Dal(SAD) Amritsar today held protest outside Kalgidhar Niwas where the SGPC is holding its emergency meeting. The SAD(Amritsar) leaders demanded resignation of SGPC President and executive members for illegal suspension of Punj Payaras(Five beloved ones).The Akali workers raised slogans against Makkar and SGPC and said that SGPC had no right to suspend the Punj Payaras who had summoned five high priests as per the traditions of Sikh Panth. The protesting Sikhs said that SGPC was also opposing Sarbat Khalsa which is right of Sikhs. The SAD Amritsar said that their protests would continue till the suspension of Punj Payaras is not revoked.Karnail Singh Panjoli SGPC executive committee members walked out the meeting but other memebrs came out to cool down hi. Panjoli criticised the SGPC President for taking unilateral decisions. He said that all decisions including pardon to Dear Sacha Sauda Chief then revoking the decision and suspension of Punj Payaras, SGPC secretaries and other employees were wrong. Panjoli later returned to attend the meeting.Meanwhile, SAD President Sukhbir Singh Badal today summoned SGPC members from five districts at his residence in village Badal and held a closed door meeting with them, reports said.
