Shastri favourite to get job, six to be interviewed

New Delhi : Ravi Shastri, the former Indian Team Director, would be the favourite when the three-member Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) scrutinises the list of candidates for the job of the Indian cricket team’s coach.
After the Indian cricket board (BCCI) extended the deadline for the applications, the number of applicants rose to 10. They are Shastri, Virender Sehwag, Tom Moody, Richard Pybus, Dodda Ganesh, Lalchand Rajput, Lance Klusener, Rakesh Sharma (coach of the Oman national team), Phil Simmons and Upendranath Bramhachari (an engineer, with no cricketing background).
Of these 10, CAC had dismissed at least two summarily, and it is reported that six candidates would be interviewed — Shastri, Sehwag, Moody, Simmons, Pybus and Rajput.
Coach-captain relationships
Anil Kumble, the previous coach of the team, had resigned due to “differences” with captain Virat Kohli. The resignation of Kumble was a setback of CAC (which comprises Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman) because the trio had recommended that Kumble be retained.
