Sikh Prisoners Issue: Sikh Activists Block Railway Traffic in Punjab

Jalandhar, 1 June : In wake of hunger strike of old aged Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa for release of Sikh political prisoners, Sikh activists today blocked railway traffic in different places in Punjab in order to build up pressure on the government on the issue.In Jalandhar, a large number of Sikh activists staged a massive protest at the Cantonment Railway Station for around two hours i.e. from 12 PM to 2 PM. Sikh activists started gathering outside the station at around 11 AM and at 12 PM, they entered inside and sat over the track. They shouted slogans in support of Bapu Surat Singh and demanded permanent release of Sikh detainees who are being denied release due to ongoing political discrimination in India. Their peaceful demonstration affected railway traffic on Amritsar-Delhi and Delhi-Jammu main lines. Heavy Police force was seen deployed inside and outside the station.
Bandi Singh Rihai Sangharsh Committee convener Bhai Gurdeep Singh Bathinda and members Baldev Singh Sirsa, Ranvir Singh, Manjinder Singh Jandi, Jaskaran Singh Kahan Singh Wala and Baba Gurdeep Singh Chandpura led the protest. This committee oversees the struggle initiated by Bapu Surat Singh whose hunger strike entered 136th day and health condition is on very critical stage.The Sikh leaders warned that if the government would not be sincere to meet their demands, railway traffic would be blocked throughout the state.As per information, the trains were also stopped at Bapu Surat Singh’s village Hassanpur (district Ludhiana) by the Sikh activists led by Bhai Surinder Singh Thikriwal. Bapu Surat Singh’s kin also took part in the protest.
