Sikh Youth Raises Awareness of Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa’s Struggle in Sangrur

Chandigarch, April 23,- A Sikh Youth from Sangrur today climbed over a water storage tank to raise awareness of the struggle and plight of Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa. Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa’s struggle will enter its 100th day this Saturday (April 25). He went on a hunger strike on January 16, 2015, at his native village in Ludhiana to seek release of Sikh political prisoners who have not been released from jails despite having completed their terms. The youth raised slogans in favor of the peaceful struggle initiated by Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa. He was seeking media attention as so far no major newspapers or TV channels have covered the hunger strike of 82 year old Bapu Surat Singh. It is also important to mention that while the Akali and BJP Government have remained quiet over the struggle, the Aam Aadmi Party too has distanced itself from the demands of the Sikh community. The Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann has not yet issued a statement in favor of Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa, even though he had earlier supported the movement to seek release of Sikh political prisoners who have completed their terms.Sucha Singh Chottepur, the State Convener of Aam Aadmi Party from Punjab, has also not paid a visit to the elderly Sikh human rights activist.
