Sirsa dera row: Takht summons 44 Sikh leaders

Amritsar : The five Sikh high priests today asked 44 Sikh leaders to appear before Akal Takht on April 17 on their reported visits to Sirsa-based Dera Sacha Sauda for “political gains.” The dera chief, Gurmeet Ram Rahim, was excommunicated in 2007 for impersonating Guru Gobind Singh.
The high priests summoned 29 Sikh leaders  for visiting the Sirsa dera  ahead of the Assembly polls and 15 others for holding meetings with  Dera workers. On January 28, several Sikh leaders had met  the Dera’s political wing to enlist support for the Assembly polls. Some had even promised help to the dera in hold congregations in Punjab, creating an uproar.As directed by Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh, the SGPC constituted a three-member panel to probe the matter which submitted its report based on video clippings, photographs and newpaper clippings. Among the SAD leaders summoned are SS Maluka, PS Dhindsa, SS Rakhra, JS Sekhon and Nishan Singh Budhlada.  Congress leaders Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, Kewal Singh Dhillon, Randeep Singh Nabha and Karan Kaur Brar and Narinder Singh of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) too  havebeen summoned.
