Speakers at Sarbat Khalsa target Badal family, anger against sacrilege of holy book

CHANDIGARH: The participants in the Sarbat Khalsa, a congregation of Sikhs, are expressing deep anguish over incidents of sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib in various parts of Punjab and failure of state Government to arrest the real culprits, The speakers are targeting ruiling Badal family for sacrilege and using SGPC and Akal Takht for promiting their vested political interests. The Sikh repersentatives from all over the world are participating in the Sarbat Khalsa. Thousands of Sikhs managed to reach the venue of Sarbat Khalsa at Chabba village on Amritsar-Tarn Taran road. The SGPC had refused to allow Sarbat Khalsa at Akal Takht. The Shiromani Akali Dal(SAD) had opposed the Sarbat Khalsa and gave a call to Sikhs to boycott the congregation. The speakers at congregatrion are expected to pass resolutions targeting SGPC,SAD and Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh. The Sarbat Khalsa may also adopt a resolution against Badal family, giving call to Sikhs to liberate Sikh organisations from the family control. It is expected Sarbat Khalsa would appoint new Jathedars and order removal of present set of Takht Jathedars. The SAD and SGPC are waiting for the response to Sarbat Khalsa before they take any decision on removal of Jathedars at their level. The five high priests are under strict police custody and are not allowed to meet anybody.
Certain persons in the audience also raised Khalistan slogans. There were also allegations that certain leaders among the organisers are trying to pass resolution of Khalistan. However others opposed it on the plea that it would give a tool to Badals to isolate them and main issue of sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib would be sidelined.
The radical Sikh bodies have decided to march to Amritsar tomorrow on Diwali day to prevent Jathedar Akal Takht from delivering his address on Bandi Chhod Divas. The state government has already deployed heavy police force in Amritsar to stop the protesters. The para-military forces CRPF and BSF has also been deployed to handle any situation of confrontation with Sikh radicals.
