Sunil Jakhar takes over as new Punjab Congress chief

Chandigarh : Sunil Jakhar on Wednesday took over as the new president of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) at Punjab Congress Bhavan in Chandigarh.
Jakhar was appointed the new Punjab Congress chief in the presence of Capt Amarinder Singh and other senior leaders.
He replaced Capt Amarinder Singh who has become the chief minister.
In the recently held Punjab Assembly elections he had lost to political greenhorn Arun Narang of the BJP from his pocket borough of Abohar.
Jakhar was expected to be accommodated in the Rajya Sabha alongside ex-state chief Partap Bajwa.
A senior Hindu leader, Jakhar is a staunch Amarinder Singh loyalist and someone who insisted on Amarinder replacing Bajwa as the Punjab Congress chief before the elections.
