Thousands of Sikhs reach Sarbat Khalsa venue despite police restrictions

AMRITSAR: Thousands of Sikhs from various parts of India and abroad have reached village Chabba near here, the venue of Sarbat Khalsa despite strict restrictions by Police and civil administration. The organisers claimed over one lakh Sikhs have arrived and thousands are stopped by police by blocking roads. The proceedings of Sarbat Khalsa have started at around 11 AM after Ardas in the presence of Guru Grnath Sahib and various Sikh leaders from across the spectrum are giving their views on the present situation in Punjab and the danger to Panth (community) from the Badal family. The speakers are demanding to liberate the Akal Takht from Badal family to save Sikh Panth. The SAD has given call to Sikhs to boycott the Sarbat Khalsa. The Sabt Samaj led by Harnam Singh Dhumma had also boycotted the Sarbat Khalsa on filmsy ground that it whould have been held at Akal Takht. Dhumma is considered close to Badal family and members of Sant Samaj are also supporting Badals. It was on demand of Sant Samaj that SGPC had amended the Nanakshahi calender. There are also allegations that Sant Samaj is also under influence of RSS. Menawhile, large numbner of Nihang organisations have also reached to participate in the Sarbat Khalsa. The Sikhs are participating in the congregation irrrespective of their political affiliations.
