Transfer orders invalid, say Panj Pyaras; may face action

Amritsar : The SGPC is likely to initiate action against the Panj Pyaras for non-compliance of its transfer orders. The two Panj Pyaras were to join their outstation assignments on November 21, but they refused to do so. The Panj Pyaras alleged they had been kept in the dark as none of their directions was followed nor any thought was spared by the SGPC to justify their transfer orders. They stated that their transfer was an attempt by the SGPC to split them with a view to deflecting attention from its “unjust moves”. On the other hand, chief secretary of the SGPC Harcharan Singh said the non-compliance of orders might invite disciplinary action. “It is an administrative decision to transfer them to different locations and they should join their new assignments as soon as possible,” he said. On November 20, two Panj Pyaras, Satnam Singh Khandewal and Satnam Singh, were transferred to Sikh Mission in Hapur (Uttar Pradesh) and an identical mission in Delhi, respectively. They were to join their duties the next day. Two other Panj Pyaras, Major Singh and Tarlok Singh, were deputed at Nankana Sahib gurdwara in Pakistan for baptism as part of Gurpurb celebrations (both would return on November 29). Mangal Singh is on sick leave and is yet to join duty. Talking to The Tribune, Khandewal alleged: “We were deceived and misguided by the SGPC. We had received transfer orders at 5.30 pm on November 20. How could one move to a far off place and report the next day? This clearly indicated the ill-intentions of the SGPC. Moreover, the transfer orders bore the signatures of the chief secretary while it should have been from the in charge of the Dharam Parchar Committee. These orders hold no validity.”
