Sydney, Oct. 5: Two pedestrians have died after being struck by a vehicle in New South Wales, authorities said.
The two men, aged 70 and 55, were walking along a road in Tura Beach, a coastal town about 350 km south of Sydney, when they were hit by an SUV at around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Both men died at the scene. The 45-year-old female driver of the SUV was not injured and was taken to hospital for mandatory drug and alcohol testing.
Police established a crime scene and specialist investigators were expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
In a separate incident in South Australia on Sunday night, one man was killed and six people were injured in a collision involving an SUV and a sedan in Adelaide’s northern suburbs.
Emergency services were called to the crash at around 8:45 p.m. The 53-year-old male driver of the sedan died at the scene.
The SUV was carrying six people — a 38-year-old female driver, a 35-year-old female passenger and four children. All six were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Police said the major crash unit was investigating the circumstances of the collision.
The latest fatality brings the number of road deaths in South Australia so far in 2026 to 84, compared with 87 for all of 2025 and 89 in 2024.
