Yaarana revolves around three young students who are football players. The trio turns into enemies after a bookie creates a misunderstanding in connection with the fixing of the football match between Pakistan and Punjab (India) teams. The Pakistanis win the first match as fixed by the bookies under the patronage of a minister. With the efforts of the college principal the footballers reunite and win the second match by one goal. It is here that the movie comes to an end.Critically examining the film, I would say that the first half is boring and unbearable. At one point of time I almost decided to leave the movie for good and go home. But in the second half the plot focuses on the malaise of match fixing which has been handled not so well. The subject was lofty and director could not do justice to the plot. The direction is sloppy and fails on many occasions. The story telling is close to unbearable and one can only heave a sigh at this diaster.Lead pair Geeta Zaildar and Gavie Chahal do not impress much. The individuals, acting-wise, show up poorly. There are 8 songs in the movie with only one to the liking of the buffs. The movie has been shot in and around Chandigarh. In the first show of the movie in Piccadilly mall Chandigarh, it attracted only 50 to 60 viewers mostly college going students. There is nothing really to hold the viewer in this movie, and it would be a surprise if the movie manages to sustain itself into the second week. I would not go beyond one and a half star for the movie. Watch it if you are visiting the cinema hall for reasons other than watching a movie.
