CHANDIGARH : The first batch of Punjabi Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) from Canada arrived in Punjab today in special KLM flight that landed at IGI Airport at 1 PM. Second batch of NRIs from UK would land on January 24.
Delhi Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and Overseas convener Kumar Vishwas gave a warm welcome to them at Airport. They were welcomed by AAP national general secretary Sanjay Singh and Kanwar Sandhu in Chandigarh.
Surinder Mavi Convener of Chalo Punjab campaign in Toronto who led the first batch said that they had came to Punjab to ensure defeat of SAD-BJP alliance and Congress. He said that Congress is not an alternative but a substitute of the present corrupt regime of Badal family. He gave a call to defeat SAD and Congress to save Punjab from mafia rule. “AAP is the only and last hope for people of Punjab”, he added.
Mavi appealed to people of Punjab to defeat Congress and SAD both to save Punjab and restore democracy in the state. He stated,“ We understand people of Punjab crave for responsive and corruption free government. We have seen in Canada how a good government can change the lives of people. Presently there is no democracy and rule of law in Punjab. Only one family of Badals is ruling and common people are suffering in the hands of this family”.
Mavi said that unfortunately Punjab was plagued by many evils like drugs, corruption, crime, mining and transport mafia during the ten years rule of Badal family. The gang wars in Punjab are very disturbing phenomena and present government allowed law and order to go out of hand. One complete generation of Punjab has been ruined as thousands of Punjabi youth is addicted to drugs. He said that if timely steps were not taken, anarchy would prevail in the state.
He said that SAD leadership has promoted drug abuse and defamed Punjab at international level. We feel ashamed at the state of affairs and feel Bikram Singh Majithia is main evil who has links with international drug smugglers.
Joban Randhawa youth wing convener of AAP in Canada said that NRIs would work hard to get rid of the present SAD-BJP government. We will spread into constituencies in Doaba and will target Majitha, the constituency of Bikram Singh Majithia who controls the drug trade.
He said that Badal family was epitome of corruption and giving them another chance to rule in Punjab would cause an irreparable damage to Punjab. “The Congress and SAD are hand in glove to stop AAP from coming to power. There is strong wave in favour of AAP because people want to see a change.
He added that People of Punjab had seen Capt Amarinder Singh’s government from 2002 to 2007 and it was during his time trend of drugs became available in Punjab. He observed that Congress was not in winning position and Capt Amarinder can only play a spoilsport in some constituencies.
Randhawa said over 35,000 NRIs have enrolled for the ‘Chalo Punjab’ movement in Canada and most of them would reach Punjab and remaining would extend their support from abroad. Rajesh Sharma from UK WHO left his job and family for AAP said that he wished people of Punjab enjoy the same facilities as they are availing abroad.
Randhawa said Jaskirat Mann an NRI from Canada has already been camping in Punjab for several months and is actively involved in the campaign for AAP.
Sumesh handa Canada secretary -massive fund raising, Dr.Sarika Verma joint secretary AAP Punjab and other NRIs accompanying the delegation appealed people of Punjab to reject Congress to reject SAD-BJP alliance. They said that voting for Congress would mean inviting Badal family for another term to rule in Punjab.
