Cops to quiz Sidhu for ‘distorting’ Sikh verse, but Jathedar silent

Amritsar : The issue of alleged distortion of a Sikh verse by Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu during his public address has been put on the back-burner.
While the police is seeking appointment from Sidhu to question him, the Akal Takht Jathedar is silent on the issue. After the SGPC reported the matter to the Akal Takht, local resident Khazan Singh had submitted a complaint with the police, demanding registration of a case against Sidhu.
Police officials said Sidhu had been conveyed to submit his version many times, but his reply was still awaited.
While addressing a rally in Amritsar recently, Sidhu had stated “Jab tak Congress bahal na karau, Sidhu naam na kehau” (Till the time I revive the Congress in this state, I will not be known by the name Sidhu). It was said to be distortion of a couplet cited by Guru Gobind Singh.
In his complaint, Khazan Singh alleged that Sidhu’s action was deliberate and malicious. He had sought registration of a case under Section 295-A of the IPC. However, the police had put the matter on the hold stating there was a need for the complainant to appear in person.
ACP (West) Gaurav Toora said Sidhu was out of reach as he was busy in campaigning.
“We have been repeatedly approaching his office, but in vain. He is busy in poll affairs. As soon as we receive his version, we will proceed as per the law. In the meantime, we have procured the video clippings and recording of the part of his public address that is under question”, he said.
