Court Denies Police Remand Increase Request for Sarbat Khalsa Organisers

AMRITSAR SAHIB : Organizers of Sarbat Khalsa Bhai Gurdeep Singh Bathinda, Bhai Jaskaran Singh Kahan Singh Wala and Bhai Satnam Singh Manava were yesterday produced in the Amritsar Court by the district police after two days police remand. The police demanded police another remand of the trio for more ten days asserting that they have to extract Bhai Narain Singh Chaura’s letter and their passports. But the Defence lawyer Advocate Gurpreet Singh lashed out at the Police and asked why they hadn’t extracted anything in the last two days of police remand. He explained that ‘Sarbat Khalsa’ was a peaceful religious congregation of Sikhs which is being misinterpreted by police under political pressure. He asserted that framing the trio under sedition charges was wrongful and the police did it under pressure of Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal.Agreeing with Defence lawyer’s arguments, Magistrate Harsimranjit Kaur denied sanctioning more police remand of Bhai Gurdeep Singh Bathinda, Bhai Jaskaran Singh Kahan Singh Wala and Bhai Satnam Singh Manava and sent them on judicial remand till December 2. Next hearing of the case is scheduled on December 2.
Meanwhile, the head of Kotwali police station succeeded in getting one day police remand of Bhai Jaskaran Singh Kahan Singh Wala and Bhai Satnam Singh Manawa in a case filed by SGPC for creating disturbance in Sri Darbar Sahib on ‘Bandi Chhor’.
