Delhi’s ACB functions under me: Najeeb Jung

New Delhi, June 2: In a stand that is certain to trigger another round of tussle with the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi, Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung on Tuesday said the city’s Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) functioned under his authority, control and supervision.“This refers to a news item published in a couple of dailies today about reported posting of police officials from Bihar in Delhi’s ACB. The ACB, being a police station, functions under the authority, control and supervision of the Lt. Governor, a position that has also been clarified by the Ministry of Home Affairs, vide notification number 1368 (E), on May 21,” a statement from the LG Office said.
However, the statement said, no proposal on posting of police officials from outside has been received so far. ”The office of the Lt. Governor has so far not received any proposal for deputation of such personnel from outside Delhi Police. The matter will be duly examined as and when the Lt. Governor receives the formal proposal from the Vigilance Department of Delhi government,” the statement added.According to a media report, six Bihar Police officials have been appointed in the ACB, including one superintendent of police, three inspectors and two sub-inspectors. However, the report said, these officers have not been assigned specific duties. The developments come amid an escalating turf war between Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
