Demonetization: Opposition observes black day a month after currency ban

New Delhi, Dec 8:  Opposition leaders on Thursday staged protest at Gandhi statue inside Parliament premises over the demonetisation issue. Leaders of Opposition held banners with photos of Rs 500 note which read ‘1 month anniversary’ and called it a black day. They garlanded the old notes and tied black ties showing their protest against demonetisation. Opposition had decided to observe black money when the Opposition parties leaders meet on Wednesday. It which was attended by 14 political parties MPs. Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying that demonetisation was one of the foolish decisions of the government.Gandhi said, “It has devastated poor, farmers and daily wage workers. We want to have a discussion. We want a vote, but the government doesn’t. This is not a bold decision, it is a foolish decision which has been taken without any due consideration. Prime Minister’s narrative has changed; started by saying its against black money, then terrorism, then counterfeit currency and later cashless economy.” “Entire Opposition staging a protest in front of Parliament to mark protest against sufferings caused due to demonetisation said,” N K Premachandran of RSP said. A united opposition has been continuously disrupting Parliamentary proceedings of the Winter session demanding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement in the house on the distress caused by people due to the currency ban. Modi on November 8 banned notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 in a major blow against corruption, fake currency and black money.
