GST on more than 50 goods slashed; sanitary napkins exempt

New Delhi, July 21 : Sanitary napkins will be exempt from GST, Union Finance Minister Piyush Goyal said on Saturday after a meeting of the GST Council.
Sanitary napkins are taxed 12 per cent tax under the one-year old GST regime, which attracted serious criticism from various quarters.
“All states exhibited concern for the masses in today’s meeting,” Goyal said at a press briefing after the meeting. “Relief announced today will benefit the common man. Rationalisation, simplification and benefits to common man was focus of meeting today,” he said. “Besides revenue collection, the GST council will now focus on job creation,” Goyal said. Saturday’s decisions will be applicable from July 27.The next meeting will focus on MSME sector. Digital incentives for payments will also be taken up at the meeting, Goyal said. Given below is a list of revised GST rates.
