Himachal Pradesh put on alert following heavy rainfall

Shimla, July 18 : The meteorological department has sounded an alert in Himachal Pradesh as various parts of the state have received heavy rainfall over the last two days. State capital, Shimla was one of the worst affected in the state as rains uprooted trees, damaged houses and roads. Several trees also fell on vehicles and minor landslides were reported from some areas. Chief of Disaster Management Cell, DD Sharma said that all district commissioners (DC) had been directed to warn people against going close to rivers and other water bodies. Sharma added that police and fire department personnel had also been put on alert to deal with any emergencies. Heavy rains are likely to continue in the state till July 20 (Monday).
