IOC boss admits Rio 2016 Olympics face ‘pollution challenges’

London : The International Olympic Committee president has admitted that organizers of the next year’s Rio Games face serious challenges over cleaning up the polluted bay where the sailing events are scheduled to be held.Sailors in Guanabara Bay have been reported to have witnessed pollution including discarded furniture and floating animal carcasses.According to the BBC, Thomas Bach said that although Games preparations were on track, challenges remained over the ‘cleaning of the bay’.However, the state government has already conceded that it would miss its original target of reducing pollution in the bay by 80 percent ahead of the Olympics.
