Martyrdom Day of Shaheed Bhai Kamaljit Singh Observed

SANGRUR, Punjab (May 19, 2015)—Sikh organizations on Monday observed martyrdom day of Shaheed Bhai Kamaljit Singh who was killed by the followers of the Sirsa based anti-Sikh cult. A religious function was organized in Gurdwara Nanakeana Sahib here to remember the first martyr of “Sacha Sauda” struggle.
Besides large number Sikh Sangat, Takht Sri Damdama Sahib appointed Jathedar Giani Gurmukh Singh attended the function and paid tribute to Bhai Kamaljit Singh. He said that Bhai Kamaljit Singh sacrificed his life for self-respect and dignity of Sikh nation.
Addressing the function, Kamaljit Singh’s wife Bibi Parwinder Kaur said that his husband sacrificed his life fighting against ‘Derawad’ (cultism) but with the help of anti-Sikh agencies, such cults are rising again. She said that to observe martyrdom of Kamaljit Singh is not responsibility of his family only, but it is responsibility of entire nation as martyrs are real asset of a nation. “It is responsibility of entire Panth to remember its martyr”, she said.
Sikh congregation demanded a memorial of Kamaljit Singh and an academy in his memory in Sangrur.
On the occasion, Gurmat Parchar Sewa Lehar chief Bhai Surinder Singh Thikriwal, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee member Jathedar Nirmal Singh Gharachon and Jathedar Surjit Singh Kalabula, Bibi Mandeep Singh Patiala, Akali Dal (Amritsar) leader Gurnaib Singh Rampura also pay homage to the martyr. Giani Gurmukh Singh honoured kin of Bhai Kamaljit Singh with ‘Siropaa’.
