Prof. Bhullar unlikely to apply for parole in near future

AMRITSAR SAHIB : Prof. Devinderpal Singh Bhullar, who is under detention in a 1993 Delhi bomb blast case is unlikely to apply for parole from the concerned authorities as two cases against him are pending .Amritsar deputy commissioner Ravi Bhagat on Tuesday told media persons that they had not received any parole application from Prof. Bhullar till date. In this situation, they would not be able to take a decision on that, he said.Lawyers have opined, Prof Bhullar cannot apply for parole as he was currently being tried in two cases. While one of the cases was registered at Batala, the other one was registered in Gurgaon. “Even if he does apply, the authorities can reject his application straight away,” said a leading legal expert.Prof. Bhullar is currently under detention at the Psychiatry Department of the Guru Nanak hospital at the Medical College here. He has been undergoing treatment for some mental problems since he was brought to Amritsar from Delhi’s Tihar Jail in June this year. Since 1995, he has been under detention.Prof. Bhullar’s wife Bibi Navneet Kaur Bhullar had given indications that the family will seek parole after he gets well.
